srFTP is a helper application in the Substation Automation System (SAS). The application can be run on MS Windows XP, Vista, 7 or newer operating system (on any edition, including server editions). The program extracts archive files as an FTP client from the Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), like disturbance records, and updates the content of the target folders automatically.

The program is always running in the background. The program’s icon is shown in the notification area of the system tray. You can show and hide the program’s window with a local menu command of the icon; in the window you can change settings and you can check the current FTP session. You can also exit the program from the tray icon but you are not suggested to do it, unless you want to update the software.

The srFTP application collects data from two different types of FTP servers:

These two types of servers can be mixed but in a typical installation only one type of servers are configured.

In case of a EuroGateway server, the configured folder of the server is located within the Public Documents \ srHMI folder. Within the server folder there are three subfolders which are updated with new files:

There is a separate folder for each IED’s disturbance records. The creation of daily archive files is not mandatory in the EuroGateway device; srHMI can also create these files for itself.

In case of a Protecta IED server, the configured folder of the server holds the transferred disturbance records:

For both servers, the srFTP application unpacks transferred ZIP files.

Configured servers are polled periodically. A EuroGateway server needs three cycles to update its three archive folders.

The srFTP application logs the current FTP session in its window. The last 100 logs can be found in the following files:

The nn number in the file name goes from 00 to 99. Check the time of the files to find the most recent one.
